MONDAY MUNCHIES

Welcome to another "Monday Munchies!" Our speaker for April, Tracey Brewer blessed us with our morning devotion, something to much on as you dive into this Monday! Choose to find joy today...

Come on…Hurry up…Not Now.

Do you ever hear those words coming out of your mouth? I certainly do at times, and I know that means I’ve got a mindset I need to overcome.

Impatience.

It usually comes when I’m in the middle of a project and get interrupted. Or maybe I’m in a hurry and can’t get my family members to move at my speed. Other times it’s caused by the cashier at the grocery store who I think is spending too much time talking to customers instead of ringing up their purchases.

There could be different things on your list that cause you to be irritated or annoyed when other people aren’t on your time schedule. As I looked for a Bible passage to instruct us, I came across Colossians 1:10-11.

“That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing…strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness:”

These verses can help us in a few ways.

They remind us that our impatience is not pleasing to the Lord. After all, longsuffering is listed as a fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. If we’re not producing that fruit, we’re displaying the fruit of the flesh.

We recognize that we need God’s power to win the battle over impatience. We’ve likely tried at times to do it in our own strength. And while tightening up our own self-control might work temporarily, we can’t overcome impatience long term in our flesh. Selfishness is a natural reaction. But as we trust God, asking for his help, we can get victory.

We see that our attitude counts. We need to not only overcome our impatient reactions, but also respond with joy. Sometimes we can control our outward response, but inwardly we’re still seething with frustration. How exciting it is if we can also learn to be patient on the inside when interruptions or delays arise.

With God’s help, we can defeat impatience and learn to “walk worthy” of Him in patience and longsuffering.

Let’s seek to grow together in this area!
